Baggage handling systems

Ready for take-off! Global air traffic is increasing year on year. And the number of passengers is increasing too. More passengers mean more luggage. And more luggage means increasing requirements for conveying and sorting systems. A challenge that we are pleased to take up. Our control systems ensure that millions of pieces of luggage arrive at their destination quickly, safely and reliably to airports all over the world.

  • Vienna International Airport

Vienna International Airport at Schwechat is one of the most important airports in Europe. It is an important hub especially for connections to Eastern Europe and the Near East. Every year the luggage of more than 22 million passengers is moved around there. Our control system ensures that each piece of luggage arrives at its destination quickly and reliably - from baggage check in to the arrivals hall.
A total of 26 Siemens S7-400 control units are used for this. They ensure that 8,600 pieces of luggage per hour can be transported in Vienna Schwechat.
  • Kuwait International Airport

Kuwait International Airport – an important hub in the Near East - is recording increasing passenger numbers year on year. This was just under 9.5 million air passengers in 2015. In order to cope with the increasing numbers the operator reacted in good time and put a new international terminal into operation as early as 2007.

Because of the constantly hot climate it was possible to install the sorting carousels in the open air under a canopy. Only the check-in area is accommodated in a closed hall. We developed and implemented a customised control system for this special situation that meets international standards and complies with local requirements. In all, six Siemens S7-400 control units ensure that 3,600 pieces of luggage per hour reach their destinations quickly and safely.
